FAQs on Neurology:

Why Might I Need A Neurologist?

While conditions of the brain come in a wide variety of different ailments, here are some of the most common issues our neurologists treat at Premier Medical Associates:

  • Chronic Migraines
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Epilepsy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Neuropathy
  • Concussion
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Tremors
  • Stroke

What Kind of Neurology Testing Do You Offer?

There are two specific types of tests our neurologists perform at Premier Medical Associates, both of which are used to understand your nervous system and diagnose conditions of the brain. These tests are:

  • Electroencephalograms (EEGs): EEGs are used to record electrical waves emitted by the brain. Neurologists use EEGs to help diagnose fainting disorders, seizures, and stroke. An EEG test is painless and usually takes about an hour.
  • Electromyograms (EMGs): During an EMG, your doctor will place small electrodes on a part of your body and apply very mild electrical stimulus to evaluate the nerve and muscle function in that area. Neurologists use EMGs to diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched spinal nerves, and peripheral neuropathy that may be associated with diabetes.

While an EMG might be mildly uncomfortable, both of these tests are 100% safe and performed by trained experts.

Why Would A Neurologist Offer Botox?

While you may know Botox as a cosmetic filler for smoothing wrinkles, it has also proven to be an effective migraine treatment. By injecting this muscle-relaxing neurotoxin into the muscles of the head and neck, neurologists have been able to prevent migraine headaches using Botox since 2010. However, if you suffer from certain migraine types, especially cluster headaches, Botox may not be an effective treatment for you.
